Road Accident Fund (RAF) Matters

If you are injured in a motor accident for which you are not to blame, you have a claim against the Road Accident Fund for the injuries you have suffered.

If a breadwinner in your family is killed in a road accident, you can claim for loss of support and funeral costs.

The Road Accident Fund is a fund formed in terms of the Road Accident Fund Act. It is funded by a levy/tax, which is included in the petrol and diesel price in the Republic of South Africa. This tax is known as a fuel levy which goes straight to the Road Accident Fund. Any person who purchases petrol or diesel effectively pays a percentage for each litre of fuel.
